Movie Quote Monday

"I took a shower washing every body part with actual soap; including all my major crevices; including in between my toes and in my belly button which I never did before but sort of enjoyed. I washed my hair with adult formula shampoo and used cream rinse for that just-washed shine. I can't seem to find my toothbrush, so I'll pick one up when I go out today. Other than that, I'm in good shape."

"The worst thing that ever happened to me was on Christmas. Oh, God. It was so horrible. It was Christmas Eve. I was 9 years old. Me and Mom were decorating the tree, waiting for Dad to come home from work. A couple hours went by. Dad wasn't home. So Mom called the office. No answer. Christmas Day came and went, and still nothing. So the police began a search. Four or five days went by. Neither one of us could eat or sleep. Everything was falling apart. It was snowing outside. The house was freezing, so I went to try to light up the fire. That's when I noticed the smell. The firemen came and broke through the chimney top. And me and Mom were expecting them to pull out a dead cat or a bird. And instead they pulled out my father. He was dressed in a Santa Claus suit. He'd been climbing down the chimney... his arms loaded with presents. He was gonna surprise us. He slipped and broke his neck. He died instantly. And that's how I found out there was no Santa Claus."

I know that there are plenty of movies that are more terrifying that the one quoted above. Take into account that I was only six when this movie came out. If you have not already enjoyed this movie, I highly suggest you see it soon.

Happy Halloween!

"This is what happens when *you* die. That is what happens when *he* dies. And that is what happens when *they* die. It's all very personal. And I'll tell you something: if I knew then what I know now... [shows her slit wrists] .I wouldn't have had my little accident.

Movie Quote Monday!

"I have a dream. It's not a big dream, it's just a little dream. My dream - and I hope you don't find this too crazy - is that I would like the people of this community to feel that if, God forbid, there were a fire, calling the fire department would actually be a wise thing to do. You can't have people, if their houses are burning down, saying, "Whatever you do, don't call the fire department!" That would be bad."

"As for his mum, she appeared to be clinically insane, and wearing some kind of yeti costume."

If you need another quote to guess the movie,

"Every man is an island. I stand by that. But clearly some men are island CHAINS. Underneath, they are connected... "

The Savages

My love for indie films continues. The Savages is a story about a brother and sister who care for their elderly father. The family of three is uncomfortably dysfunctional. Laura Linney's character portrays what people feel. She is warm and caring. Philip Seymour Hoffman's character vocalises what most people think. Blunt and decidedly disconnected. Their father has dementia. This movie made me realise that I never want to faced with the decision to put either of my parents in a nursing home. It had some great shots of trees and the sky. It took me back to when my family and I would take long road trips. Loved the ending.
My advise, watch this movie and reflect on your own life. Enjoy.

Citizen Toxie: The Toxic Avenger IV

I'm just going to jump to the point. I love a terrible movie just as much as the next person. However, this movie was flat out terrible. I liked Toxie. He is the only character that has any kind of moral fiber in his mutated body. The Sklar bros were enjoyable as the news casters of TnA news. The rest of the movie at many points is uncomfortable to watch. I struggled to get through the last 40 min.
I can see how guys would like this movie. There is excessive female nudity and people pooping their pants. My idea of funny is not watching a mentally challenged girl almost get raped. Now I am not trying to be a stick-in-the-mud-goodie-two-shoes, but this movie does way more than push crude humor over the line. It takes the 'line' shoots it in the face, bends it over and laughs while kicking a puppy.

The Boy in the Striped Pajamas

After the repeated request from a friend I finally watched this movie. It was interesting to see from a eight year old's pov. Bruno, son of a SS soldier in Hitler's army befriends Shmuel, a boy on the other side of a fence who wears striped pjs. It is a reminder of how pure we can be when we are little. Things are simple when we don't know hate and fear. The characters are well developed and I found myself very involved. This movie tugged on my heart. Deep and significant to what was going on during Nazi Germany. I recommend this film with ****
